In this lesson, the student will review essential concepts related to fractions in the 5th grade math curriculum. The student will learn what a fraction is, how to write them, and why they are important.
In addition, the student will learn how to name the numerator and denominator of a fraction, and how to sketch a fractional picture when given a written fraction. These skills are essential to master in the 5th grade math curriculum sequence.
Special emphasis is given to the concept that a fraction is a way to write a number less than one and can be thought of as "part" over "whole".
